Hi All,

Just bought this Canon 450 AutoUp:

Anybody have any info or literature on this one, that they could share? I know it fits on the Canon 7S (which i have), according to this website and pictures of the rig:

Any experiences with this unit on the Canons? It seems like it might fit the 50mm F1.2 Canon, since it is 57mm? I've also seen some references to it fitting the 35mm F1.5, which would also be good.

Here's 450 AutoUp on Canon 7/50mm F1.2

Here's 450 AutoUp on Canon 7/50mm F1.2

This arrived today, and it's really cool. Not many accessories were made for the Canon 50mm F1.2, and this one seems useful. Reminds me of my old Dual Range Leitz Summicron, and this gets me about as close as that one ever did. Rangefinder coupled and seems to be very precise. Focus of course is adjusted using the helical on the lens, or by moving front to back. Need to test the accessory lens for sharpness, won't be much depth of focus at F1.2. 😱

I am pleased.

Does anybody know what the large removable silver knob on the front is for?

Perusing Mike Butkus' website I found a snippet of information on the Canon 450 AutoUp in the "Canon Interchangeable Lenses for Canon 7S Instructions".

LENSES FOR CLOSE-UP PHOTOGRAPHY

The following supplementary auto-up lenses are available for Canon lenses. They are: 42mm 900 and 450 for the 50mm F1.8 lens, 50mm 900 and 450 for the 50mm F1.4 lens, and 57mm 900 and 450 for 50mm F1.2 use. "450" is for close-up from 52 to 38 cm or 1' 3 1/8" and "900" is for 98 to 54cm or 3' 2 3/4" to 1' 9 7/8".

So I'm right it's for the 7S, and also seems to fit the Canon 7 just fine (I have been test-shooting with the 7 this afternoon). It does get you quite close at the minimum focus distance. See example below.

This quickie digital test was made with Nex3 and 50mm F1.2 at F5.6 ISO 200:
