I've just completed my review for the new Canon EOS 5DS and 5DS R. Looks like the start of another megapixel race is about to begin!

Thanks for the review.
It's hard to get excited about 50 mp, though. Even my 5D Mk II provides far more image quality than I usually need. You didn't mention focusing speed, but the 5D Mk III meets my requirements when I need faster focusing.
Perhaps landscape photographers will benefit from the 50 mp and no AA filter. The higher ISO of the 5D III trumps any of that for me, though.

You're right about the resolution. 50MP is overkill for a lot of photographers, especially when they are not printing. But it does come in handy when there is a need to crop the image, and the excess resolution keeps the image looking sharp even after aggressive crop. There is a price to pay for the huge files when it comes to processing and storing the files though!
I'm using a 5D3 with half the resolution, and I'm happy with the performance. I won't be unhappy because of the arrival of a 50MP sensor, but I sure won't mind the extra resolution for my studio work if I have the opportunity to upgrade my camera.

Thanks for the review. I have Canon stuff and if I were to upgrade I would need to do the same with my computer!

Nice review. For anyone invested in canon glass, especially its native and adapted high end lenses, and who prints really large, these two bodies will be fine tools, I think. For my needs, if I were to buy in, it'd mean I'd shoot less medium format film, or not at all.

Good for Canon users. Whether you need the extra pixels or not it advances the technogy. Now canon's challenge is to satisfy users with glass that will perfor up to the sensors resolution. Also if canon can improve dynamic range that will be a major plus.
Now I'm looking forward to hearing user reviews when they come available. Has there been any suggestion of price.

Ain I'm still trying to convince myself to move from 5Dc to MKII.
The only thing I need in winter days is 6400 as good as 1600 on 5Dc.

Good color counts for something. I personally hate working with huge files. When the file size exceeds a film scan always shoot film.
There may be a reason for 50 MB imagery, but not in my world.
Here's a jpeg shot and detail from a lowly 5D (which I plan to keep). Hey, it's a digital classic!

My computer would cough up its' guts at that large of a file. But I will admit, the original 5D along with the 50mm Macro is still in my collection. I should probably try to find a used 24-105L to go with it because that combo has already provided me with some magnificent photos. My only photo book was prompted by the balloon photos taken with that set.
