Canon EOS-R

Not sure what the new Canon and Nikon offer over the Sony A7III/A7RIII.

The larger diameter mount and shorter flange distance on the Nikon confers real advantages in lens design, for one thing, which has been explained elsewhere. Sony is stuck with the mount they designed to be optimal for APS-C cameras. It’s limiting, though, obviously you can take good pictures with it. You can take good pictures with almost anything.

Looked at another way, what Canon and Nikon offer over the Sony is essentially what Nikon SLR users thought Nikons offered over Canons, and what Canon SLR users thought Canons offered over Nikons. None of them are “the same” so people have preferences based on the things that aren’t the same. It’s okay.

I have been looking at Z7 images and personally I am not impressed with that sensor at all and especially at that price point. Cant wait to see the Canon results something tells me Canon is going to leap frog both Sony and Nikon.

The Nikon is a bust for me. (This coming from a longtime Nikon shooter)

You're likely gonna be disappointed...

Are you looking at actual RAW images in your imaging editing software or just what's on the web?

Better price.
Nearby our home service center.
Affordable compatibility (99$ adapter) with EOS lenses I already have with same speed and no issues AF. Including tiny 24 2.8 EF-S lens I have. It just like my awesome digital Rebel.

Same goes for existing flashes.
Screen is rotating. To me it is super, Sony one - meh.
And I understand Canon EOS menus.

But I even don´t get better pictures from a larger diameter.
I am sure that sensor development goes on so Sonys decision for the E-Mount will still last a while.

In all the conversations I've had about mirrorless, the main reason to switch is weight. Lighter and more compact. Less to pack around. On and on, so why are we stuck with these humongous lenses? I understand that they need to be AF for the masses but can't they design something more compact?

Hot on the heels of the Nikon Z cameras

Canon and Nikon bosses must sync there product development and announcements. They sometimes announced competing dSLR models almost the same time, like with D600 and 6D. But now they introduce whole new camera systems, new lens mounts and lineups, after years of waiting, in two weeks apart!

no IBIS and no dual card slots? ugh.

i guess that’s to be expected from a 6d level camera. i like the initial lens offerings, so maybe the lack of IBIS won’t be so bad, and a future 5d level camera will have dual card slots.

now what will panasonic’s FF camera be like?

Wait till Panasonic introduces that Full Frame Mirrorless camera with M mount and no back screen, all for a manufacturers suggested retail price of 900 USD.

Wasn't the whole idea behind mirrorless, that it would be much lighter? So now we are getting lighter bodies with enormous humongous lenses. Waiting to see what Pany brings us.
