Well, I happened upon this handsome flash unit and now have to figure out how to make it work.

I guess I need to know the approprate capacitor and battery for it, and then I will find some bulbs.

So, does anyone happen to have, or know of a place on line that I can download the owner's manual for this bad boy? Can anyone share any info with me about these units? Thank you.

Let me know if you want another one to match. I have one and the leather case is mint i.e., no stains. I've also got about 5 dozen Silvania bulbs.

I've been wanting one of those - I've got 3 GE #5s that I've been wanting to use :D Let me know how it works for you. You might try www.flashbulbs.com for both info and bulbs.

Do you know how to use it Don?

So, what does the morning crew think.

I most likely will call flashbulbs.com next week. I didn't see anything on their website which will help me learn, but I suspect that if I call them they will be able to help me.

Don, it's good to see back around here! Have you finished restoring that car (Porsche?)

Hello Frank!

It's good to be back on the RFF. I have dropped by from time to time just as a quick check but other things have kept me busy. Yep, got the Porsche 914 done just in time for winter. LOL! It's got 450 miles on it and that's driving me crazy. It's spending most days tucked away in the garage due to our losuy weather.

Best regards,

Don

Rover,

I hauled my Canon V flash unit out last night to have a look at it. I have never used it and sold the camera it came with. Mine has the capacitor in place so I put in a AA battery and Sylvainia 25B bulb and hit the "Test" switch but nothing happened. I don't see any "on/off" switch on it anywhere so don't know if it has to be mounted on the camera to work. I think I have the original instruction sheet around here somewhere, if only I can locate it. :bang: I'll keep looking.

22v batteries were common in these type of flashes (either22v or 15v). The batteries were also popular in some test gear, spot meters and early transistor radios.

Just found a cheaper source:

Kim,

Thank you for the URL. I see they've got both the 15 and the 22.5 volt batteries. I think I'll order one of each to see which works since they aren't that expensive (US$7.95 and $8.95).

Rover,

If you want to order a battery with me I bet we can save on shipping cost.

Let me know.

I don't have a camera that the flash was designed for but it also has a slave port so I suppose I could use it with my M6. Since I've got 60 Sylvania 25B Blue Dot bulbs sitting around doing nothing, why not give it a try.
