Hello fellow film shooters,

I recently bought myself a wonderful black Canon FTb. I've taken apart the camera, cleaned it, lubed it and everything is buttery smooth again. What a fantastic mechanical machine this is :)

I've read a lot about the camera and inspected the repair manual many times before I tried to open it up. Now there are two questions for which I can't seem to find the answers to.

First, when I remove the top, the shutter button shaft always falls off. I guess this is not supposed to. Can I fix this by tightening the screw (part 13-8497)?

Next up, on the battery side there is a little piece of foam, it has completely dried out and has crumbled away. Does this serve a purpose? In other words, should I replace this with a new piece of foam?

Thanks for the reply! Will take extra care not to lose it :)

On a side note, where is the picture coming from? I have a repair manual from Canon and a NatCam guide, is this from another repair book? Every repair manual I can get my hands on is welcome :)
