I scored a fabulous deal on ebay on a "lot of cameras" that were not very well described -- I bid based on the photos of them. When they arrived, I found that among others, I had gotten a Canon FX (circa 1964) and a T50 (circa 1984, I think). Both appear to be in great working order.

My question is this -- do any of you fabulous people know if there is a flash that can be used interchangeably on them both? I have looked on line and see flashes that work for the T50, but can' t really find one for the FX.

If there isn't one that can be used on both, that's okay too, but I really would like to know what kind I can use on the FX.

Thanks in advance!

I am a Canon FX fan, and I have several. They often suffer from shutter taper, I'm afraid, but you have to try them out to see. They also often suffered from prism desilvering. Look through the viewfinder and see if it is cloudy or looks like someone stuck scotch tape in there - that's desilvering. If it is bright and clean, congrats!

They mount the Canon FL glass - you can use FD glass, but something is not the same - I forget what exactly. The FX does not have a hot shoe, and the T50 does.

The best flash for general work that can be used on both would probably be the Vivitar 285HV. It has a hot shoe for the T50 and a cable for the PC jack on the front of the FX. Remember to cover the bottom of the flash when you put it on a camera that does not have a hotshoe - it wills start flashing like crazy everytime the capacitor is charged. Scotch tape will do.

Hope you find this helpful. I love the FX, but it is not exactly a 'great' camera. Built like a tank, though. And upside the head of a mugger, it is a thing of beauty.

Best Regards,
