Well-known
When I showed my good Mrs the final price that the "Canon" Kwanon sold for recently she replied with..."why didn't I bid on it"...... After scrapping me of the floor with a BBQ spatula and then telling her a few home truths, like...A fourth Mortgage on the house, selling the kids to some Hollywood harlot, drowning our three beloved cats (bless there mess), surrendering all our worldly things and finally, placing a red light at the front door... it JUST wasn't possible. She hit the roof on the cats......women!!!!!
Anyway this was a good lead into the next gem that appeared on my computer screen two week before we were to leave on an extended trip to France and USA. It was a Canon JS and with a quick reply to Doug St Denny I queried if the guy wanted to sell the camera. Struth, as quick as a flash an email came back from the owner that he was interested in selling the camera at the right price (out the window went the bargain). Anyway took the Mrs in a cup of tea, boiled eggs, hot toast drowned in her favourite jam, strawberry and the only Rose that was in our garden (hit the roof on rose....women). A tickle under the chin does wonders and she calmed down. Told her about MY intentions of me sending of an offer for this camera and got the reply....up to you darlin....women!!!!
This guy had done his homework and had checked with Doug who gave him a valuation, bought both Mc Keown's and Peter Dechert's book and knew what he had, so off went my VERY substantial offer and he accepted it.
Yippeeeee................he accepted it............NOW how the hell was I going to pay for it.
Now with some help from some guys in the IDCC group, Rob McElroy (thanks Rob) managed to view the camera and a SK 13.5cm/ f4 lens and he came back with a glowing report on the camera 9.5/10. The guy would accept PayPal payment...ouch these fees were horendeous but check the end of this diatribe, why.
Finally I did a grovel to the bank (now I know how those Tibetans feel when they crawl to there highest something or other) and got an increase on my credit card limit, sorted out a few accounts and slithered others in the "chx on the way box" and paid the guy the HARD earned $$$$$$$$$$$$$. Rob picked up the camera and posted it of to a friend in Florida who after going through six boxes (well done Rob, recommended anytime) to get to the camera, he also had to be scrapped of the floor with a BBQ spatula as I hadn't told him what to expect..😀
The JS now resides under the bed in a Titanium box covered in inch thick chains welded to the floor...can't trust banks.
I actually rang the previous owner and asked the providence of the camera. He said he picked it up at a garage sale, well not actaully at the garage sale he was looking at but had noticed a guy across the road putting some ole gear on the sidewalk for the next rubbish day. He wandered across and asked if he had any ole gear he may want to sell and got the reply that he had an old camera his late dad had left with him. Brought it out and was asked how much did he want for it......$20.00.:bang: :bang: :bang: :bang:
Tooth fairies never come to me, I just have to pay for the privilege to see one:angel:
