Hi All,
Just picked up this very nice Version One Canon RF 50mm F2.8 from the RFF classifieds. This is the one with the zebra stripe focusing ring, takes 34mm filters, so it's going to work just great, with my 100mm F3.5 when I am traveling light.
Here's the lens, looks a beauty

I would be interested to know of any experiences with this venerable optic. Thanks! -Dan

Well I now have my Mint matching original Canon Lenshood!
It's marked 50mm F2.8, and the adapter is the clamp-on style, marked 36mm. So it will also fit my dedicated 100mm F3.5 Canon lenshood, which has the 34mm screw-in adapter on it. The adapters are interchangable. I have an extra 40.5mm generic clip-on lenshood, which I suspect will fit the front mount of the lenshood. It does for the 100mm version, works perfectly for me.
Life is good
Anybody else here using the 50mm F2.8 Canon RF lens?

I had such a lens when I did know much about Canon RF lenses. Then I sold it here.I still have the lens hood though. I will look for another 50/2.8. It used to be a very inexpensive and readily available "low cost" lens for most Canon Rf cameras.

Hi Raid,
Yes my understanding is that is was an inexpensive, good lens often sold with the body as a package deal. I have not seen many offered for sale, however. They seem to be rather hard to find?
Here's a Nice test photo. Looks sharp even in the corners, which is a good thing. So it is optically different from my Canon 50mm F1.2, which I dearly love.
Good to have a choice, in the same focal lengths. I'm hoping it performs like my 50mm F2.8 Leitz Elmar V1, which I just sold.

Think Different
The Canon 50/2.8 has always interested me. A Tessar-formula lens if I'm right. Someday if one pops up for the right price, I'll buy it.

Oh and from the RFF Classifieds, just picked up two original Canon Series VI filters, which fit this new hood, and the 100mm F3.5 Hood. A Yellow and a Dark Red. Although I already have Kodak Wrattens in Series VI, it is good to have the Canons. Things are coming together nicely.
And here is the info on Peter's website on the Canon 50mm F2.8:

Here's My New 50mm F2.8 Canon on VT.
Here's My New 50mm F2.8 Canon on VT.
The lens arrived from Japan today. That was quick! Love it!
Here it is on VT, this lens was offered on that camera, according to Peter's book.
The dedicated 50mm F2.8 Canon Lenshood is also on it's way, along with a couple of original Series VI Canon Filters.
Should be all set with this.
What a great combination with the 100mm F3.5 Canon RF lens. Nice small set for traveling.

Cool! Congrats on the lens and can't wait to see photos. I too read that this is a Tessar-type lens. Looks good on that VT, nice and compact.

Everything Is Now Here.
Everything Is Now Here.
The 50mm F2.8 Canon Lenshood arrived today, and the two original Canon Series VI Filters, an original Canon Red and Yellow Series VI, which fits both of these hoods. All from the RFF Classifieds.
Here's how it looks all together, found a Rodenstock LF plastic cap that fits the 50mm F2.8 lenshood very securely. And my collection of various Series VI filters (for the hoods). And my original Canon RF Series VI Stackable color-coded Filter Holder, which keeps 'em neatly organized.

Have tried the 50mm f2.8
Have tried the 50mm f2.8

sharp and not too low contrast. nice colors. I would even say that on the day it performed at par or better than my chrome 50mm 1.8 (which I like a lot) and is nice and light.

From what I had read many years ago in a 1950's canon rf book .
The 50 mm 2.8 is intended to give best results with color film at the time of production .

Didnt even know Canon made a 50/2.8... looks like it takes beautiful photos as well! So much detail! I've had a recent infatuation with Canon lenses. Might just have to pick this one up someday.
On another note, Japan Post is amazing. It's silly how something coming from Asia could arrive faster than something coming across the border from the states. On top of that, you get a cool tracking number that doesn't stop tracking once it's crossed borders (Some tracking services don't track in Canada, only the states... sucks).
