What does a Canon S-60 hood fit? I just received one. The seller (not ebay) described it as fitting the 50/1.2 lens, but its too big for that. :bang:

Not my day. The M4 arrived back from servicing too, with a big boot-print in the side of the box and the box crushed on one corner! I'm crossing my fingers that the camera hasn't been damaged by the rough treatment. I've advised the Leica agents that they need to change their freight company. 😡 😡

No - got that wrong it's the hood for the 1.5 you'll need.

What's FL?

Maybe send it back to the seller, except that will cost me $15. I'll talk to them.

Chris, does the hood unscrew from the adaptor ring? If so, what is the bottom diameter of the hood? I have the bottom adaptor ring from a Canon hood with no hood, maybe we have a match. I will check to see if it fits on my Canon 50/1.2. I think it does, it fits that or the 50/1.4, I forget which now.

Hi Rover. Yes it does unscrew. It looks like an oversize Series VI set. The ID of the bottom of the hood is 64mm (inside the threaded part). The OD of the threaded section on the base of the hood (thread on the outside) is 66mm.

The adapter that came with the hood is (S-60) is 60.8 ID to slip onto a 60mm lens, and tightens with a set-screw.

I just dug the ring out, it is a 50mm ring that fits the 50/1.4. The threads for the hood are just about 55mm. I have a 55mm screw in hood that I use with my 50/1.2 which is how I got confused, I can screw that hood onto the ring and use it on the 50/1.4 if I want to.

That sounds like a good setup. I've sent an email to the shop I bought it from, requesting a refund plus postage. They described it as 50/1.2 rangefinder; must be easy to confuse these with a big inventory.

Hi,
I just slipped an S-60 clamp-on hood on my 1.2, gave the tightening knob a bit of a twist, and everything fits just great. It isn't the "approved" hood for the 1.2, that one is vented. The vented one also sells for ~100 OR MORE. The S-60 works fine as a substitute, and doesn't really intrude that much on the viewfinder.
Depending on what you paid for it, mine was only a few dollars, it is a good, acceptable sub for the "real thing". Yes, I own a vented hood, but is on the shelf as a collectible, because of its value.
