Package from Finland arrived today, from a friendly RFF member. Enclosed is five original "Canon V Film Cassettes", and two of the grey bakelite Canon outer cases for the same. I am absolutely delighted!

Basically these cassettes will fit any of the later Canons, as long as the body has a loading key in the base. As does my 7S and 7. They do not fit the bottom loaders, those bodies use the older, anodized Canon Cassette (not marked "V", and no serations in the top outer lip).

Now I need to run downstairs into the darkroom and load some Eastman XX 5222 motion picture film into these bad boys...........

Here they are:

I'll take all I can get, if anybody has any more to sell 😀😀😀

Congratulations, those are hard to find. I've used the Nikon F version quite a bit and this type cassette is the best for bulk loading. I've been slowly gathering IXMOO's and FILCA's for the day when I have a darkroom again for black and white. Good Luck and Enjoy. Joe

Hi Nokton48!

I'm glad my package arrived safely 🙂 please, use those cassettes regularly like I did and PLEASE show us some photos!

Here's How It Works.

Here's How It Works.

Loaded up a test roll in total darkness, stretched-out "36 exposures or so" using the TomA method. Used masking tape to secure the Eastman XX 5222 motion picture film onto the Canon film spool.

Here it is, loaded and ready-to-go in Canon7. Will shoot this up tommorrow, at an outdoor rock concert. Also rolled up a couple of extra rolls to take along, with me, nice that I have a couple of the original Canon bakelite cassette cases for transporting.

I like this system so far!

I have a questions for the Canon Experts on this forum:

I have just received a Canon cartridge, marked "Canon Japan" on the top, with serated top edges. Similar to the "V" Cassette, but has two pins in the top, instead of the one on the "V".

I have what I think is an early VT body, with cloth curtains, and no loading key on the bottom. So, it will not work with the "V Cassette", I have determined through trying it. It would be great if all my bodies fit the same type of film cartridge, but it is what it is.

So, here is my question: Will my early VT body take the earlier type of cartridge, with the brass-coloring and two pins in the top? If the answer is yes, I will buy some more of the earlier cartridges, they are certainly easier to find than the "V" Ones, and considerably less $$$!

I understand from reading Peter Descherts book (which I have) that the V Camera became the VT, when it went into production. I have been searching for an original VT instruction book, to no avail. I have ordered a copy of the V Camera Instruction Book, hoping it's got info about what film cartridge works in the V/VT.

Do I have all of this right? If a body dosen't fit the later cartridge, should it work with the earlier one?

No matter what, there has to be a part in the bottom of the camera that rotates to open and close the outer sleeve. On the magazine V, the locking of that sleeve is just based on a little extra pressure on the one pin. On tbe magazine for bottom-loaders, the locking of that sleeve is based on pushing in the sprung pin, which happens when you put the bottom on.

Gandy's page on the Canon VT shows a twist lock on the bottom, yours must be an early version before they did that. It's the rotation you need, I think you're stuck with felt lipped magazines on that camera.
