hi all, i recently picked up what appeared to be a fairly tidy canonet ql 25. unfortunately it turns out to be in sad need of repair.
when i look thru the viewfinder all the frame guide lines are crooked, plus there also appears to be something rattling around in the top shell.
well, i'm definitely not a camera repair person, but out of sheer curiosity i thought i'd see if i could repair it.... otherwise i'd just have to bin it.
after following people's instructions from this forum, downloading the canonet ql17/19 manual from a link that somene here kindly posted!, plus following some handy hints from matt's classic camera website, i managed to get the top shell off. (the slim ring that goes around the shutter button was a bit of challenge but nothing a jar top remover couldn't fix!
i found out that the rattling noise was the mirror, which had come unstuck. it looks like it was stuck in place with some sort of glue fixed to the back of it.
does anybody know how to re-fix this mirror, it's orientation - as it's not symetrical, what sort of glue i should use, & how do i ensure that it's straight/aligned?
cheers!
any help would be appreciated!
... the shutter fires & everything else appears to be o.k.
oh finallly, the two washer-like shims that go under the shutter cocking lever... one is like brass coloured & flat & the other is corrugated/rippled... which order do they go in when replacing the cocking lever... i assume the rippled one goes on the top?

It'll take a bit of jiggering to adjust the mirror exactly. I used a slow-setting glue to re-attach the mirror, and a pair of tweezers to adjust the position, looking through the viewfinder often, until I was satisfied, then let it dry. Look closely, and you might see some residue from it's previously attached position. Be careful to avoid too much glue....
Yes, the wave washer goes on the top, but I'm not sure it really matters...
Regards!
