I'm new near and have just yesterday received my QL17 that I bought on EBay.
I'm halfway through my first film and looking forward to seeing the results. Looking at the serial no on the back the no is : C00302 I was wondering if this makes it a very early example ? The no on the back of my Canonet 28 is : H34153 which i presume to be much later in the production run of 28's. Perhaps someone could enlighten me on this.

Thanks in advance

On the inside of the camera you will see a number screened in where the film canister is placed. There is a corresponding code identifying the year of production, I just have to find where I put that piece of paper. I had is stuck to the desk where my computer is for a couple years and just took it down a couple weeks ago, figures. Look closely with good light, the code is there, just very faint.

The date code is in a letter/number/number sequence. The letter designates the year the camera was made. Canon started with "A" in 1960 and went up from there. My Canonet QL 1.7 has a date code of "V" meaning it was built in 1981.

Also note that many Bell & Howell era Canons have a "serviced by B&H sticker" over the date code meaning you won't be able to see it.

thanks for the info

thanks for the info

Thanks for the info guys. had a look inside the film chamber and found: P1223
Looks like it was manufactured in 1975 so not very early after all. Will have a look in the back of the 28 when i've taken the last few shots and see what year that was manufactured.

canonet 28

canonet 28

I finally got around to opening up the canonet 28 & when i did i found the letter to be a V. this confuses me a bit as i have always understood that the 28 was manufactured between 1971 and 1976.

I'd be interested to hear what others think

thanks

H27809 on my QL17 GIII
I thought GIIIs came out in the '70s...
EDIT: Nevermind, I used the code on the back of the camera by accident 🙄

my black QL 17 is Q911.... a black camera made exactly 25 years before a very black day..

/f

edit; just realised that 11 is not necessarily the date the camara was made..

Saw this posted on flickr. Does anyone have an up date. My Canonet QL17 GIII has an R428 code stamped inside. From the post I'm estimating it's make around 77.
