Ive been scanning ektar for the first time on my canoscan 900f mkii and the scans look horrible. Ive been scanning on manual with no auto correction. Heres the images:

It looks like there is a lot of dust on either negatives or scanner glass.

It looks like there is a lot of dust on either negatives or scanner glass.
Im not worried about those its the actual tones are hugely over saturated for ektar and the grain is very strong. This issue with tones and grain is what i am looking for help with.

Are the negatives over-exposed? I know that with my 9000F MkII that negatives start to look like this when they're too dense for the scanner.

Im pretty sure not, they dont look like it and wet prints from them dont show it
