Hi folks,
I have a Leica M5, and would like to use a Carl Zeiss Biogon-C ZM 35mm f2.8 lens on it. Has anyone used this combination successfully? I'm a little apprehensive about whether the deep rear element could damage the metering arm of the M5.
Many thanks,
Raj 🙂

Hi Blkrcat and Robert
Thank you very much for the reassurance. It is a great relief to hear this. I feared that I might have to sell the lens as soon as I got it!
Thanks again,
Raj

I think the danger is in using a pre-war type Biogon, like the Jupiter-12 on the left, which would hit the metering cell in the lens throat.

Thanks for the update on the pre-war Biogon and the image, which illustrates the point nicely.

As a matter of fact, I contacted Carl Zeiss directly and this is part of the response from a customer service rep from their lens division:
"All of our ZM lenses, including the C-Biogon T* 2,8/35 can be used on all M-mount cameras, including the M5. Their back focal distance is long enough to be safe for the light metering arm of the M5."

Hopefully this information will be of use to others who might want to use Zeiss ZM lenses on Leica M bodies (including the M5).
