Am I the only one who finds it mildly annoying that any thread containing a poll gets bumped up to the top of the forum section whenever someone votes in the poll? I keep clicking on those threads to see if anyone's written anything new in them just to find that the last post is two months back.

Is there any way this can be fixed by altering the forum software? Or how about restricting polls to the "RFF Poll" section.

Or am I being too petty?

The current behaviour is mildly annoying as searches for new posts will sometimes end up hidden behind a deluge of ancient polls, disrupting active and interesting threads.

Personally I think old polls should be retreated, or poll entries should not be treated like a new posting to the accompanying thread by the search and sort functions. I don't know whether this is possible, as we seem to be stuck with whatever the software does right now - the moderators tried a software upgrade earlier this year and it proved to be troublesome and could not be rolled out.

Maybe we should merely tip off new members that it is rude to celebrate their discovery of the poll function by filling all and every long-dead poll made ever since the founding of the board.

When a poll is first created by the OP, there is the option of closing the poll after certain time periods. Choosing this option would prevent 3 year old polls from resurfacing.

The last "ancient poll thread" that resurfaced was the collapsible SUmmicron discussion. It resurfaced long after the poll closed, meaning the discussion continued- not the poll.
