I check now and then, but never find anyone there....
Would be nice to chat sometimes, on slower days

I've only been there once, when directly reminded to! Other times I don't think about it. I think it would be helpful to have a link to it on the main page. It would also be helpful to post a schedule of "meetings" there. And... making a structured event out of it periodically could be fun... with a chat leader, a greeter, a program with guest speaker, and a topic for discussion.
I used to volunteer on AOL, in the Macintosh Utilities (software) Forum. One of the higher-level volunteers had as his main function lining up a program and speaker for the regular online chats he conducted every Saturday evening at 9pm Eastern. There were usually two other volunteers on duty helping during the chat, one to keep the question/comment queue (those attending had to "raise their hand" before speaking), and one to act as greeter (greeting arrivals and reminding them of the procedure) and also "chat cop" to deal with unruly behavior.
If there were only something like half a dozen attending, then we could dispense with the queue and be more casual. But with a larger group comments get too fragmented as a number of people "speak" at once on different subjects.
I know scheduling would be difficult, what with our members scattered around the world in most every time zone. Anyway, just tossing some comments into the pot!
