"Cheap" Leicaflex Lenses?

My winter project this year is going to be to try and fix a busted Leicaflex SL. The poor busted camera does not have any lenses with it so I'm hoping to find a beater/fixer-upper 1 or, preferably, 2 cam 50/2 Summicron R for it. The budget is essentially non-existant but you can't even be told No if you don't ask in the first place :D

Thanks!

Will,

Unless you firmly set for a 50, look around for 75-200 vario-elmar 4.5. Minolta design, probably the cheapest Leica-badged lens that fits Leicaflex.

Just use a finger to manually close down the diaphragm, the depth of field preview button, and the one cam lenses work great.

Vivitar made lenses in interchangeable mounts called T-4 and T-X. They made T-4 adapters for the Leicaflex SL and the T-X lenses will work in them (or maybe it was the other way around?) Anyway, I had a 24/2.8 and a 105/2.8 that were fantastic lenses. Vivitar marketed some fantastic optics back then.

T mount!?! Kewl, I didn't know the R mount was out for them. Thanks for that tip, Al. Some really nice glass out there, I'll have to look around for that.

Varjag, I'll keep my eyes open for that one though I'm bad about prefering primes. OTOH, that FL range is really a useful one... :) Thanks for that tip!

The Vivitar mounts DO NOT HAVE the "third" cam for R series cameras or the "first" cam for the original Leicaflex. The diaphragm must be stopped down manually for the exposure reading. The 105 and 24 were killer lenses. I wish I still had them! I had a 90/2.8 Elmarit R and the 105 Vivitar was better!

William, I have a Tamron Adaptall II mount that says Leica R on it. Plenty of good, cheap, Tamron lenses out there. If you want it, just PM me with your mailing address.

Look for the first version 2-cam lenses; there are some bargains (sort of) out there. The 135/2.8 and 90/2.8 are fine lenses, as is the 180/4. Other than the 35/2.8 there really aren't any decently priced wides. Of course the drawback with these lenses is that they're series filter lenses -- and Leica series filters are steep. (Note also that the camera requires a circular polarizer -- more expensive than the linear.)

Yeah, the 35/2.8 is one I'd not mind getting ahold of. Maybe I'll get lucky... ;)
