Given the competitions quality i'd be willing to pay $1500. Just not worth the Leica name for a digital rangefinder, unless you absolutely need a digital rangefinder.

If it runs true to form, and follows the trend of both the Digilux2 and DMR the price will drop to about 50% of the original price and stay there. i.e. an average of 2500$, depending on the condition, of course.

last week, i got a used M8 and 35mm asph 6bit summicron for $3500. The M8 is in MINT condition and has only 3000 shutter actuations. that's a good deal, right?

Sounds like a good deal. I paid USD4700, incl taxes and all, for a 6-month old M8 with the Summicron 35 (which does not need to be coded really) in like new condition with 18 months warranty left.
