Cheap RD-1 or scam?

Bidders ID's hidden (private, can't be warned off), 24 hr auction (no time for ebay to pull), no recent feedback so can't see type of goods previously sold. Just look at the number of other 24hr auctions the seller has, all at $25 for very expensive items!! Contact me privately for cheap price (on all auctions). Adds up to keep well away!!

I'm sure it's a scam, just for the heck of it I put in a bid (low) and was instantly outbid.. the one bid in there is probably 2 grand ;)

not sure what someone hopes to gain from this...

I guess they could promise the camera to a bunch of people. get the $$ and never send it?

My experience on ebay let me say that the seller probably has this item and will sell it. Otherwise he would not offer (or even prefer) Paypal. Scammers whith the intention not to deliver the item usually do not accept paypal (with the sellers/buyer's protection) but want something outside ebay (bank or western u.).

His description does not sound like he would be a rangefinder aficionado. The fact he offers no papers, charging unit, box, CD and all the usual stuff let me guess it might be a stolen item, I'm quite shure it was not his camera.

His feedback profile is below 98% positive - this means the Paypal security is reduced for the buyer.

In any case, one should not bid, here.

Didier

PS: I have overseen the fact he has listed it under:
Baby > Nursery Furniture > Crib Mattresess

LOL I did not notice that.

Since I am thinking of selling my RD-1, when I saw the advert, I first thought "oh s$%t, are they already going for peanuts"?

So are all his other auctions which almost certainly means it's a hijacked account.

Hmm, ebay is a tricky business nowadays.

I recently bought my R-D1 from ebay and the sellers account was hijacked at the last minute. Later the original seller got in touch and I decided to go ahead, but first I insisted on him photographing his driving licence and a hand written note so that I could at least have some idea that this was real.

It all turned out well in the end but I had many nervous moments as I transferred the money for the R-d1, a 50mm nokton and a 12mm Heliar...

The Paypal part is a red herring. He wants to lull you into thinking he is legitimate.

What he really wants to do is

If you want BUY NOW for only $700 contact me only at: Adolph(insert IDIOT)@gmail.com

In which case, I bet he says he wants wire transfer or cashier's check or MO.

I might just contact him and see if he will take $700 in payment in the form of pumpkins I grow in my backyard.

Please feel free to ask if you have more questions.

......

mentioned that he didn't have a "buy it now" listed through ebay and he replied..

send me your shipping address and after the ebay staff will contact you for comlete the transaction and payment.

when my brother gets very bored he trawls ebay looking for pirate gear, lulls the seller in to thinking someone has bitten and then my brother sends a package full of black and white photocopied money. Doesn't stop them but it does chear us up to imagine their faces when they open it...

Yup, you'll get a phishing post that looks like its from Eb*y and you are to send the money with account details. They get the money and hijack your account. I really hate this sort of thing. Some people are just scum.

Notice that this scam artist is listing the Epson in "
s.gif
Listed in category: Baby > Nursery Furniture > Crib Mattresess"
Hmmmm

The auction has been cancelled by eBay. The "Epson crib matress" is (snivel!...) not available anymore ;-)
