No, I don't think this means the sky's falling down, but I was a little dismayed and surprised by it...
Along with my horrid incident this mornig, I used up the last of my fixer.
Since the photo stores in Edinburgh I normally frequent were closed today, I took a drive over to Jessops (a whole hour in sale-madness traffic). Oh, thinks me, they've re-organised a bit. No fewer than 5 self-service print-from-digital kiosks in a row. I took a wander to see where they'd moved the chemistry to, but couldn't find it.
While queuing (sp?) for ages to ask someone, I noticed the wall displays were all digital gear. When I asked the guy, he said they had no chemistry in stock. At all. I asked was he sure, as the branch in the centre of town keeps some but not on display. No, he said, we have none at all. All I wanted was some fixer, Jessops own-brand would have done. But no.
There is another photo store that I don't like much. The used gear is hugely over-priced, and never serviced before sale. Sometimes some interesting things to look at, though. The new range is primarily digital. I go in there when I want something like a metal screw-in lens cap, as he has boxes and boxes of random bits. And good, quick, reasonably cheap Frontier 8x10s from my scans. He's a nice guy, just optimistic in his pricing, and will chat for hours.
But he has recently got a full range of chemicals and similar back in stock. He will be getting more of my business.
