Chipped Vulcanite covering. How much do they bother you??

Are you bugged by chipped vulcanites?
Are they deal breakers when you are looking to buy?

They would not be deal breakers for me but than I probably would replace it if it was too bad. It shouldn't matter much, but I think anyway that most of us like to have our beauties looking good to some extent.

I dunno. I like a well used body. Don't min a few chips and missing chunks of vulcanite at all as long as the camera is working well.

Couldn't care less. Never even gave it a thought.

The vulcanite on my IIIa got too brittle to glue back on, I recovered it just because of that. M3 has GripTac fitted that will not ever crack. I used it with the original vulcanite until whole chunks came off. M6 has the newer Leica coverings that will not come off either.

Instead of chipped vulcanite, I really like Morgan's "Levant Black Leather" on a Leica.

It has a lovely supple feel.

I have it on my M8, IIIf (ELC) and M4.

camera covering is so cheap anymore...I'd simply replace. To me its like replacing bald tires.

Funily enough, I've seen surprisingly M=series with any vulcanite missing (well under 1%), and then, it has usually bee just a small chip somewhere. There are so many Leicas with good coverings that I've never felt the need to look at really bad ones. But as others say, recovering doesn't cost much nowadays.

The vulcanite can be easily replaced if necessary so I am not bothered by even a single bit, as long as the camera is working perfectly. Vulcanite take no pictures.

lol. Could be. But, I've never had Leica lust, just use them as cameras so want something more functional than beautiful. Going to have one of my M3's recovered in Griptac. Great functional covering.
