I tried a search but did not come up with anything. Do you use a circular or linear polarizing filter on the M6 with the early style meter? I would think linear, correct?

Linear. A circular polarizer is needed for SLR cameras that meter by the use of a beam splitter (part of the incoming light is directed thru the mirror). Since RF do not have a mirror (and neither do digital SLR) all that is needed is a linear Polarizer.
wait... I've always thought DSLR's need a circular polarizer... I'm sure my 50D has a mirror as well as anything digital I've used with "SLR" on the label... or have I been horribly misled?!
As already mentioned, linear or circular is fine on an RF. You might also want one of these, made by Kenko, in the hot shoe to make adjustments easier.
