Hi guys,

I'm considering about getting my Zorki 4 and Jupiter 3 to a CLA service.

How much have you guys ever paid for a CLA service on a Russian camera?

BTW, I've heard a lot of good things about Oleg (OKCamera) for his repair service. What you guys think about it?

His service is worth far more than the cost IMHO. :)

Oleg is the best. I think I was one of the first to use him. He's done a half dozen cameras for me, including replacing the curtains in a Leningrad. Don't know precisely what he charges for a cla--I usually get curtains replaced which is about $30. I think he has prices listed on his site -- http://www.okvintagecamera.com/ I've got a Fed 1 and Red Zorki 5 headed his way right now.
The one thing about Oleg is you have to be patient because it's at least two weeks each way with about $15 shipping each way. You're looking at six weeks to two months.
Recently I saw some guy offering cla on Russian cameras on Ebay. Don't know anything about him except he's in Arizona.

I was just looking at Oleg's website, and his prices seem pretty reasonable if the cameras are inspected and fixed up before sale.

I notice many Zorki bodies have only serial numbers, not models, such as Zorki-3, -4, etc. Can one go dependably by serial numbers as can be done with Leicas? Or are all those the "original" model, meaning Zorki-1?

He claims to have "brand new" parts for Zorkis. Mirabile dictu!!

Do you guys know if Oleg has experience with Prontor-SVS blade shutters ? I disassembled the one of my TLR (Flexaret III type B), blades are in place now, but I've a little problem with one of the springs controlling the shutter speed. Thanks :)

I'm planning to get a CLA from Oleg as well, but what turns me off is the time that it takes to ship and reship. My Zorki 4 came in really "crusty" condition even though the seller said it was in very good condition. It's really tough to turn everything and my thumb and fingers get really sore trying to turn the knobs.. Maybe I'll send it to him! Thanks for your tips guys!

Dark,
He may be able to but email him first. Prontor-SVS? Is that on Agfa cameras? I think I'm getting a Agfa Silette with the same lens.

If you have any question about service, just ask Oleg on his site. He is reliable and does excellent work.

I would not hesitate sending Oleg another one of my cameras for cleaning or repair.

His repair prices are listed on his site.

Oleg fixed my Zorki 3M with a cleanup and new shutter curtains. It took awhile, but it was worth the wait.

Let me send my camera to him right after this roll of film :)

I don't like to wait though :(

"My dear camera, I'm gonna miss you so much..... It's ok baby. Only about 2 months...."

Oleg is good at figuring things out on just about any camera. A friend of mine locally had a Canon 7 that had a broken part. He sent it to Oleg and if I remember correctly he had the part fabricated!!

One caution--If you send expensive non-Russian cameras to him, the customs people over there may sock it to Oleg and you'll end up have to pay him back for the duty, which can add up. May not be the best place for non Russian gear.

Thank you both for advices. The Flexaret III rates at about 70$ - 100$. It uses a SVS-Prontor shutter, that was used also by german camera manufacturers, so it is not impossible to see it on Agfa cameras. I will e-mail Oleg and see what he tells me. I've also to send a CZJ Biometar-III 2.8/80 back to Pentacon Dresden, they forgot to fix/clean it when I sent my Pentacon Six for service/upgrade there.
