Now as I am new to Canon RF (and only marginally more seasoned with RFs in general), are CLAs on Canons something that is trusted only to a select few or is everyone happy with the neighborhood camera shop? I have a QL17 and a 28 that need a a little nip and tuck before being taken out on the town.

I did it myself on a ql17 GIII and a 28New. Bopth of them seem to work as they should now. Depends what exactly is the problem there.
Also, many pieces of these two models are interchangeable. Don't panic if something is broken, could be replaced from the other one. E.g., the front rf/vf window in the ql17 was broken so i took the one from the 28New out and fitted it into the ql17. Just a matter of reglueing.

i had my oly 35 rc done locally and it was very nice when it came back.
i would think a competent camera repair person should be able to cla an old fixed lens cam.
btw, what are you putting the 100 on?

Welcome to the forum Marc!
I bought a "new" QL-17 a while back and sent it to Essex Camera Repair here in NJ in the US. They did a wonderful job on the camera, so if you can find the equivalent in Japan I think you'll be fine. Essex charge $80 for a standard CLA on a QL-17.

Hi Joe
I bought the lens hoping it would put me a little closer to the fire with respect to actually purchasing an LTM body. Unitl I actually make up my mind (and find the camera) I am picking up an adapter and putting it on my M3.
For everyone who had information/advise for me on the CLA, thanks. From what many of you have said and what I dug up in some older threads, I think I will try my hand as replacing the light seals myself and see how it goes. Of course this assumes that I will be given more than 10 minutes to myself between my new little girl and her jealous three year old sister.

Hi Marc,
I don't know where you are in Japan, but if you are near or in Tokyo then there are a few places I can reccomend. Lemon Cameras in Ginza, are not the cheepest but they can have most CLAs done (they farm the stuff out). There is a small place in Shinjuku that does a fine job reasonably, I recently had a 50mm f1.2 CLAd for 6,500 yen. Places Name is Shinjuku secondhand camera market....no Engrish, send me a PM if you need details or a hand, I usually make a trip round the shops once a week or two.
Best
Mike.
