Having dabbled with the scanning software and given vuescan a try I'm more confident of getting ok results from my scans with my 4490. It all seems to work well apart from multiple passes in vuescan seems to just hang.. i'm assuming its not THAT useful on a flat bed?
Anyways i've been using a blower to try and clean up the negatives.. most recent developed ones are in very good condition, i have some really battered older ones though. The thing i've noticed is that the blower alone isn't enough to remove stubborn spots of dust and other grime/hairs. Even using the brush still doesn't work.. on some unimportant older already damaged negs i had some joy using my finger and even gently the end of a finger nail to get underneath the thing that had attached to the negative. Can't be good for its health though. What is the best way of cleaning before scanning before i actually start going through a lot of film.
Cheers

I was taught to use a lab polishing cloth (TETENAL). If that doesn't work I soak in a small tank of water with a couple drops of LFN wetting agent then gently wipe it off and dry.
