Dear Board,
I received a Canon EOS A2E bought at auction. I was advertised as having a sticky grip and when I received it I grabbed it in my right hand and had to ask my wife for help to remove it from my hand. I literally couldn't have thrown it out of my hand.
I removed the battery cover from the grip and rubbed it down several times with cotton balls doused with Isopropyl alcohol. Most, but not all of the stickiness was gone but I wanted better. I took an old cotton sweatshirt and put a few drops of Goof-Off on it and rubbed the cover down. I got a lot of black gunk off and set the cover aside to dry.
I checked it a couple hours later and it was free off all the stickiness but it looked like it was showered with talcum powder. I got the WD-40 and sprayed a bit on the old sweatshirt and gave it a final rubdown. When it dried it looked great, and it still looks great and feels great a day later.
I don't know how this will work on other brands of camera grips, but I used it on all my sticky Canons and all of them are fine now.
Hope this helps.
Regards,
