To CameraQuest, Head Bartender,
The reception of the Rangefinder forum in The Netherlands leaves much to be desired. Every once in a while the connection is broken and a notification comes from a website called "Cloudfare". The notification has the error code "522".
Also, the photos I post on the Rangefinder forum appear less sharp than before. Can anything be done about that? Is there anything I can do myself to improve the situation?
With photographic regards,
Erik.

There's nothing you can do, Erik. This is happening to EVERYONE. They need to find a new web hosting provider to fix the 522 error. The site is too big and has too much traffic for the server to handle.
Regarding images, I have not noticed that, but I have my photos resized for the web before I post them. If you post really big files, the forum software must resize them to fit. That can affect the apparent sharpness on the images, depending on how the software goes about it.

Thank you, Chris, for this information. I am a true digibeet. What is the best format for pictures?
Erik.

Erik, are you posting from Flickr and using the Share BBCode option, then choosing the code by file size? I find this option doesn't down-sample such that it affects picture quality.
Here is my post on how to do it in case you have never used this option:

Thanks a lot, raydm6! I'll try it.

Just as bad down here south of New Holland. 50% of applications to Rff get the cloud unfair reception.

I get the 522 error and 524 error constantly with RFF, generally multiple times a day. I've never gotten it with any other website. It's definitely a frustration and makes it a less than enjoyable experience. I don't think it's an issue with Cloudflare but with the server (at least that's how I read the 522 error). Hopefully something can be done to solve this issue once and for all.
This is on the Cloudflare website explaining the different errors and their causes (and possible solutions!): https://support.cloudflare.com/hc/en...rrors#522error

Same here. Multiple error codes. One day last week I spent over 2 hours, off and on, attempting to get into the site. It's a frustration and I've noticed fewer and fewer conversations here. I know I just come in to check recent posts, post a couple of photos, get frustrated and I don't come back to check the site that often. I appreciate now being able to post my photos here but the conversations have taken a major hit, IMO.

It’s not just you. I often post the same image here and Pentax Forums using the Flickr BBCode, and the RFF version is always noticeably softer, irrespective of browser or viewing platform.

I normally stop by RF on a daily basis but have been prevented for a while now. I think I get the Cloudfare screen half of the time, so I don't visit as often as I otherwise would these days.
I am also in EU if that matters.

It's bad enough when one can't log-in, but it's worse when one can't even log-out. And you go to post something when the Forum goes into "Working" mode then crashes, so it may be a while before you can see if your posting stuck or got lost. I also notice that "MP Guy" did some work on the Classifieds, now all the adverts from before he did that got wiped out, some of which were still active. Doesn't anyone know how to run things around here?

The 522 notifications and interruptions are worse today than at any other time I've experienced them. Makes me want to not bother, which is very unfortunate, since I greatly enjoy this site.

It happens often - perhaps as much as half the time. It's getting to the point I don't even have to wait for the error code due to the long delay for the site (error code) to open.
Either the site opens or it doesn't.

Probably over 50% of the time now, as others say it makes one not want to bother. Posting is often a waste of time. I know the site is free to us and thanks for that but something, probably simple, is amiss.

Cameras. I has it.
The site is still enjoyable to me, so I’m tolerating the problem. I have noticed that if I get the error immediately after posting, the chances are that the post succeeded. I’m careful to make a copy of my text immediately before I post so that I can paste and re-post if necessary.

I have no special insight on why this is happening but just want to point out that in fact this site has very little traffic . Less than 100 new posts / day which is basically zero in terms of server load . And read numbers are low as well if you look at the number of times each thread is accessed. The site is too big and has too much traffic for the server to handle.

That's because the site is down so much, we can't get on to use it.

So is anything being done about it? Are the folks who have the ability to fix this 522/524 error issue paying attention? Sorry for being so blunt, but evidently it's bugging many of us and we really want RFF to succeed in all ways as it had 'before'. There has to be a way to fix it.
