I used to use a Cokin Filter holder sometimes with my SLRs. Anyone use them with there rangefinders? Is it worth buying a smaller setup or just use screw filters. I already got a U/V, Polarizer and a Yellow 40f1.4 Nokton M later this week I am looking to get the 90mm f3.5 APO Lanthar. Are the filter sizes the same?

Thanks in advance!

I have a whole bunch of Cokin screw-ins, but I had to get them from France. 😎

I own a basic set(yellow, orange, red, ND) of Cokin filters and use them mostly on my TLR. I thought I'd just get the correct sized adaptor ring and use them on my RF cameras(Bessa R, Zorki 3m, FED 5, Kiev 4a, a few others) but that plan didn't work out too well. On the cameras the filter holder blocks the RF window and makes focusing a pain. Or the holder blocks quite alot of the VF window and makes composing difficult. Or both.
Dissapointing since I like the filters--OK(not great but good enough for me) quality, and not too much $--and have got good results from them.
Not sure what size filters the 40/1.4 or the 90 CV lenses take cuz I don't own them but Camera Quest has that info for all the CV lenses.

Couldn't you rotate the filter so the long axis is vertical? Oh, and one other thing, what TLR do you use? And where did you get small filter rings? I use a Seagull, and I can't find 30.5 mm rings at all.

Drew,
I tried various orientations and that didn't help much. I don't have the Cokin stuff handy to see which cameras had which problem.
I have a Seagull 4a-107 that has 34mm screw threads. I got a 34mm to 46mm step ring and then a 46mm ring for the "A" size holder. I wouldn't swear to it, but I'm pretty sure that I got the step-ring(along with all the other Cokin stuff) from Adorama.
Adorama lists a B+W 30.5 to 39 step up ring CLICK HERE which would get you to a more common size.
One thing about Cokin and my TLR, because of where the shutter button is, I had to cut a notch into the filter holder to be able to use a cable release. And when I do, the filter itself protrudes into the view of the taking lens. Annoying but workable.
I also would look at RITZ COLLECTIBLES they helped me with filters for my 90mm Elmar and Industar-50(a36 slip-on). And rather than just seling me what I thought I needed, they suggesteda simpler, less expensive solution. Gotta like that!
