I spent one week in Bonn, Germany (my hometown) and took the opportunity to visit Cologne again. The Cologne Cathedral is one of the town's landmarks for its height (157m) and size. Anyhow, a well-known tourist-spot and since I was tourist, taking some photos was mandatory ... 😉

All with my M4-P and the Summilux 35 pre-ASPH:

Hi Yaron,

thank you ! I took a couple of photos but wasn't sure about which I like ...

BTW, the DR Summicron should have arrived today but still at work 😱

Thank you all for the nice comments !!!! 🙂🙂🙂
This place is special, I mean, all churches are special but this one is really huge and in the center of a big and busy town. Going inside and being lucky to see the light flooding through the high windows is a special thing. I am glad that I didn't ruin the film or so ... 🙄😀

I developed in XTOL, scanned with the Epson V700 (4800 dpi and saved as jpg), then just downsampled and slightly adjusted levels in PS Elements 5.

@Roland: Yes GOOD news !! 🙂&🙂

Cheers,

Maddoc

Ned: Thank you !!! It took me a long time to decide, which photos I really like. Most of them are either family shots or boring ... I may post another thread "Rhein-Romantik" 🙄

roundg: Thank you !!

was this the same catedral that needs constant renovation (year in year out), because of WWII bomb raids made it too shaky for any bigger renovation without breaking something permanently ? I see some construction levels in last photo. Stephans Kirche in center of Vienna is stunning. wish I can see this one as well.

Well, not exactly. There is permanent restauration just because the cologne cathedral is so big. When you have finished after many years you can start over just again. Air pollution is a big problem for the sandstones used.

Yes, the northern tower was hit by a bomb in WW2 but didn't collapse. They put in a temporary fix consisting of bricks. Recently it was replaced by the original stone material. There was a big discussion whether this should be done or not. The church decided to do it because the cathedral is a church reflecting many centuries and gothic architecture and not a war memorial.

I think the 3rd one is just striking, like it a lot. That is one cool site to visit too, haven't been there in many years but your photos made want to go visit again! 🙂
