I know comparing 645 with 35mm is an "apple/orange" kind of thing, but I was wondering if anyone has had experience scanning both formats on "lower end" devices. In particular, I was wondering how a 35mm trannie scanned on say a Nikon 5000 would go against a 645 scanned on something like the Microtek M1 pro or an Epson V700?

I am assuming the dedicated 35 scanner would always win over the multi-format for 35mm only but when it's up against 645... how good are scanners like the M1???

I am really interested in reproductions around 8x10 ish.

Thanks heaps.

I am also interested. I was never really satisfied scanning 645 with various flatbeds, though I still have not tried the Epson V700 or 750?

Using the same film/ASA, the medium format will win. The tonality and enlarged detail will be a tad better. Especially if you start cropping. I always felt that I had to use top technique to get quality 8x8 from 35mm using ASA 400 and a dedicate scanner. With medium format, using the same film, even if I push 1 stop, I get better results easier on a low end flatbed.
