I recently acquired a 50mm Lux in the E43 variant. However, mine focuses closer than the 1m mark (probably 0.9m). Is this normal? The patch continues moving and the photos seem sharp…

Ok - but I thought only the E46 focus closer. Shouldn’t the hard stop be at 1m - or is this just part of the tolerance of hand assembly? I’m not complaining, it just doesn’t seem to match the available info.

If you are curious about MFD of Leica M lenses you would see that they never have same hard stop.
Have a look at yours.

I had a look at my three Summilux-M 50mm : the two E46 have something like 65cm (for 70cm in paper), the E43 has something like 95cm.

Variabilities of Leitz/Leica lenses can be subjects of discussion for many years: the real focal length 'measured' is engraved on the barrel near infinity as final 1/10mm two digits (as '13', '14', '16' on mine, never complain those must be '00' as 50.0mm lenses, as on my Noctilux 1.0 !).

Have fun with these made with precision tools.

Yes 🙂 http://nemeng.com/leica/039b.shtml and http://greenspun.com/bboard/q-and-a-fetch-msg.tcl?msg_id=005cTt

My 90 is a 90mm FL, my 135 is a 136mm FL (my Spinal Tap tele) 🙂
