Constantine Manos & M8

Thanks for the link, no colors are not with M8, check out years of those pictures, but if you click leica M8 you get leica images, well I like it! and I like it alot!

He's got a great eye and an amazing sense of timing, whatever camera he uses the results really grab your attention.

Yes, I also agree. Some really great work here.

I still have his 1971 (B&W) book "A Greek Portfolio", which has fine work as well and it's interesting to see how his vision has got "Tougher" over the years. A lot of the pictorial 'devices' he used to use now stripped away.

The only slight downside I see is that a lot of stronger colour pictures look very much like those by Alex Webb and therefore there is some dilution of individual style. But i'm not going to quible too much given the overall standard of the work.

Jim, if you look at that way, whole magnum looks same, I love Alex Webb too, I find Alex Webb to be slightly different from our greek friend, anyhow, I think Alex Webb is younger :D

Vlaidmer,
Well unfortunately there is more and more of a Magnum corporate style these days - but then they are trying to corner the company report market. There is hope though with photographers such as Alec Soth getting associate status and a member I know slightly who has just got a large amount of money from a television company to make a film (more money in this than stills) and has sub contracted someone else to do it (under his supervision) so that he can take the stills!

Apart from all the 'old stagers' who are still going strong and doing their own thing because they no longer need to worry too much about bringing the money into to the agency, I very much like the work of Carl De Keyser. He spends a long while working on his projects and has important things to say with his images. And he's younger still! Then they all seem to be younger than me these days. :(

I am 23, you think I have a hope?

Well you certainly have more time to try to get in than me!
Applicants can nominate themselves through open submission (low chance) or be nominated by a member (better chance). After a short list is made members vote on it (at the AGM). If you gain more than 50% of the membership vote you become a nominee for a period of 2 years (with no binding commitments on either side).

At the end of two years you present another portfolio. You need 75% of members to vote for you this time. Then you need two years as an Associate.

At the end of that period 75% need to vote you to full membership.

Competition is very fierce not many people have been accepted in the last 5 or 6 years.

So minimum 5 years. Are you up for it!

Anybody remember that Mazda Miata ad many years ago..."Before the house. The spouse. The kids. You get. One chance..."

Nachkebia...go for it man, send yourself out on assignment somewhere, some hotspot, with some sort of thesis in mind. I know you've been traveling quite a bit, but maybe to some place more volatile? Before you're driving a mini van like me. :)

Steve, thanks :D well I don`t know if I want to be full time photographer or anything like it, I love to enjoy photography and I love to be designer as a proffesion, I might someday become freelancer but I don`t think I want to be full time magnum photographer (not that anyone asked me) :D

Manos seems pretty happy about the m8 performance. the color looks absolutely amazing. and even the nighttime shot with the biker, probably with a very high iso considering he was shooting at 1000 shutter speed.
