I recently picked up a 90mm Sonnar G for a very good price, but it didn't have a rear lens cap.
Looking around for one now now, I see the GK-R1 rear caps going for almost half the price I paid for the lens!
So, does anyone know where to pick one up for a reasonable price (in the UK would be nice!)? Or are there any alternative rear caps that would fit the G mount?
Many thanks
Gav

I was looking for a rear cap for my 28mm Biogon and didn't find it. But KEH had one for the longer lenses. You should email them. I think they were asking $30...

GK-R2 fits all G lenses. GK-R1 only fits 45mm and 90mm lenses. If you are also going to use 28mm, and/or 21mm lenses in the future, then don't buy GK-R1, buy GK-R2 instead. Because, when you are changing lenses, you will need to find GK-R1 for 45mm and 90mm, and GK-R2 for 21mm and 28mm. This is extremely cumbersome! I eventually bought extra GK-R2s for all my G lenses.
Both rear caps are expensive! GK-R1 costs around US$33 in KEH. GK-R2 costs around $43 when they had that in stock (now they don't). If you live in London, I advise you to buy it directly from Japan. Although you may need someone who understands Japanese to help you. This is the place you can order: http://zeiss0.hp.infoseek.co.jp/zaiko-acclist.htm
With overseas mail, it cost me about $28 for each GK-R2, still cheaper than what KEH had asked for.

By the way, this is why your G 90mm was very cheap, because it did not have a rear cap!!
All Contax G series accessories are very expensive, and hard to get. If you are able to live without those accessories, then you have the bargains. Otherwise, nowadays I simply do not want to buy any Contax cameras or lenses lacking their essential accessories.

I've figured that out now

Just for the sake of completeness, the 35/2 takes a GK-R1 as well.

You're getting a super deal on the 90, a great lens. I wouldn't hesitate shelling out another $30 for the rear cap in order to protect its contacts.

Yeah, that's a great price. I paid 125 for one with a cap, and I felt that I was getting a fantastic deal.

That is a super deal on that lens. And a great lens it is. Do not fixate on the cap price to the lens price, what's the point? You want to protect your lens with a cap so get the cap and be done with it. That cap would be worth $80 if you end of poking the rear element because you decided to see if you could save $10 eventually on a cap you need now.

You cannot really "poke the rear element" of the 90mm lens since it is recessed about 1/2 an inch. The cap is just nice to keep the dust out and the rain, and to no accidentally lodge the gum wrapper in its rear ... when in the bag ...
