I am wondering how much the GG2 hood (on the 45/f2 Planar with filter) or the GG3 hood (on the 90/2.8 with filter) becomes visible through the viewfinder and blocks part of the G2 finder.

I can see a slim bit of the filter already on the 28mm lens through the viewfinder and I realize that a hood would be cutting off much more. And since the GG1 hood is really shallow it may be quite useless to have it, So i will not get it. Am I doing the "right thing" here?.

But how about he other two hoods? How much of the viewfinder corner is cut off with the 45 and 90 mm lenses with/without filters, any experiences, suggestions are most welcome.

Ideally I would like to use the hoods on top of the filter, on top of the lens, and get a front cap (GK-54) for the hoods, too. If at all feasible, i.e. if the cut-off is minimal.

Please let me know if you have or use the G hoods and a G2 or G1. Thanks very much!

I believe with a 28mm and the GG1 one is only allowed one filter before you start to get cut off, i.e. vignetting of the 'chrome slide'. I use a low profile sky filter, or light yellow. I clip on a generic cheap 55mm 'screw in filter' squeeze the opposed tabs plastic cap, from a junk box, and consequently have to apply black board paint to inside of hood, quite frequently.

Viewfinder cut off does not worry me I open the other eye, unless you are left eyed, (or worse) this should work ok, initially it does need concentration, but if you persist it will become second nature.

P.S. I do have a G1, & a 28mm, but I only ever use the Hologon. The rangefinder centre spot & delay is too difficult for me, - this is like you opening both eyes a perception problem - I'm too used to the Kiev/M2, shoot first review film type, exposure, focus second, frequently a 2nd shot opportunity does not repeat. If my G1 accepted a 35mm I might be tempted but as it needs the upgrade GAS does not occur.

From the paucity of comments on the G2 with lens hoods above, am I correct to conclude that nobody uses any hood anymore around here on the G2?

Did anyone buy hoods, but discarded them after trying to use them when finding them useless? Is that so?

Any help coming?

No, I use hoods all of the time :)

The dents on two of my hoods show one reason to use them, although flare is not much of a problem with Zeiss Glass.

And yes, all of them block the lower right of the viewfinder but not so much that I find it distracting and I got used to it. Even so much so, that I can't imagine looking through the finder without the lenshood in it.

me to, well I have all the hoods.....hardley ever use them, but not because of the cut off as it is not an issue to me.
good to protect lens, or when you need one because of light, but not essential as you can use a hand if you really need to ( if your lucky it wont be in your shot).
