contax g2 problem. anyone have this happen to them before?

Nate, not sure if I'm right here, however, when I've had something similar to that, it's because I did not have the camera/lens focused on a subject. And by focused I mean that the subject was directly in the focusing rectangle.

Thank you for the reply, Frank.

I'm sure that that would not be the case, as I have done multiple troubleshooting since it has happened. The distances are set on the LCD screen but the lens doesn't shift into focus and the shutter will not release :(

Do you have another lens to try? Take off the lens and look at the drive screw on the body, and the receiver on the lens...

Thank you all for your replies!

Bob, I cleaned the contacts on the lens mount and on the lens it self and I think you are right about the lens and camera are not communicating with each other

Digitalintrigue, I do not have any other lenses to try but I am starting to think that the lens maybe the problem. The camera does release the shutter without the lens on it. Am I on to something in thinking that?

Might sound silly, but is the camera too close to focus? I once thought my G2 had seized up because of that but focused on the distance and it sprang to life again.

It's difficult to tell but from the audio it appears to me the drive screw is spinning but it's not connected to the receiver on the lens, hence no focus, hence no shutter fire...

Look at the back of the lens, you should see the receiver, perhaps it's been damaged?

Should look like this, right above the CE label.

Yep, check the (camera side) contact pins! I had one G1 with a bent and stuck contact pin in the mount, where the lens refused to focus at all, without any obvious indications on the body (that is, finder mask and distance display were working).

Yes, the distance display works even without a lens attached.

In any case, it's clearly either mechanical or electrical. Heh :)

Thanks guys!

I just had to play around with the screw on the lens and I got it to work.
thanks digitalintrigue for taking the time and photographing the screw for me!

you guys pretty much saved my life haha. Working on my senior thesis and camera repairs is the last thing I want to have to deal with.
again, Thank you all for the help greatly appreciated.

Cool. :) The drive screw is spring loaded, I've never had it fail to engage before on any of my Contaxes, so this is a new one.

Hi guys, sorry to bump this up but sounded like the same. However after reading I realized my problem is different. I got a motor sound when I press shutter and it does not fire. The lens moves to correct location to focus but shutter just does a motor sound...Any ideas?
