I have my Contax II Shutter Spring broken, but cannot find any spare spring.
Before considering making a new spring, I wonder if I could use a Kiev II spring. I really do not know if both springs produce the same tension.
Any experience on this subject?

If you are referring to the spring under the shutter button the Kiev spring will work.

No, I am sorry, I was not specific enough. I meant the Spring that is inside the cilinder that push the shutter courtains.

Here You have a Kiev Cilinder which has the spring inside.

I have heard that a Kiev shutter assembly will work in a Contax but have not tried it so cannot comment..

I don't remember which thread now, but in the Contax RF subforum, there are numerous good threads on repair. One of them I remember specifically mentioned that spring. Sorry I don't remember which thread, much less what was said about it.

Kiev's spring works fine on all Contax I, II and III
But be carefuller with re-placing, do not over tension at the end
Best

P.S. For Kiev you can re-place a whole shutter

how i wish that this can be done for the IIa :rolleyes:

I bought a IIa with a damaged shutter :eek::eek::eek:

Don't scrap a Kiev II. It's a rarer camera than the Contax!

Changing springs is as near to impossible as you can get. Change the whole spring-spindle. Any Kiev spring-spindle will do, though quality reduced over the years. Kiev 3As seem to be quite plentiful and cheap at present, and quality of the parts is quite good.

Edit: Sorry, hadn't noticed how old this thread was. Comments still apply!
