Contax price check

Hi all,

I just found this kit and to be honest it looks awesome, but as I'm not familiar with Contax I wonder if it's reasonable fo the condition.

It's a Contax IIIa with Zeiss Opton Sonnar 50/1.5 in Exc cond. for $689 incl world wide shipping

It seems to me you can do better than that by several hundred dollars...

Aim for a IIIa for $200-$250 and the Opton for $200-$250.

You can often find a good deal for a IIIa/IIa with an earlier Sonnar 5cm 2.0 at a lower asking price than an Opton 5cm 1.5. I have the 5cm 2.0 and 1.5 plus the Opton 1.5. The old Sonnar 1.5 is my favorite of the three.

I've been in the market for, and have bought some, Contax stuff lately, and I find that Buy It Now prices are way, way higher than the ending prices of regular auctions. I've gotten really good stuff here on this board and on eBay for cheap. If you go CZJ you can get especially good deals on lenses. I paid $75 for a CZJ Sonnar 1.5 though admittedly it needs collimation, which will add some money. But you could find a good CZJ Sonnar 1.5 for $100-150, I bet.

Much depends on condition, of course, especially if the body is truly in working condition or recently CLA'ed.
