I am considering buying either camera that takes ltm lenses or a contax camera. Eventually I may want to upgrade to M mount - not sure yet. Being new to this idea I wonder if there are such adapters, if they work on all focal lenses, and reliable. Any recommendation will be appreciated

I don't think there are any adapters out there to fit ltm lenses to contax RF bodies.
But there are adapters to fit contax RF lenses to ltm bodies. Kippon makes one for example and Amadeo used to make one.
As for compatibility on ltm, it will take most lenses 50mm and over. Most Wide lenses won't work because the shutter is in the way of the rear element. Though perhaps someone else can give the exact details on what lenses work and which ones don't.
Also, you can then just adapt the ltm adapter to M mount at a later point.

Thank! Just checking my comprehention. You said no ltm to contaxt but contaxt to ltm is available only for lenses 50mm and longer. Is it so?

I've had two 21mm Biogons that had been adapted to Leica M (long story), but as far as I can see, they should go on 39mm x 26 tpi as well.

Yes, anything 50mm and over. The back of Wide angle Contax lenses don't fit into leica bodies, though there might be 1 or 2 wide lenses that work.
Here are some links to the adapter:
