Hi all,
I have just imported some old RD-1 photos by "copy as DNG", that is let LR 3.5 import by converting from raw ERF to DNG format. Im quite suprised that the size of DNG is aprox 1/2 of the ERF. Typically the ERF files are just below 10MB and the DNG just above 6MB.
Anyone got a clue?

I have been using DNGs with LR for a while, and I noticed this too. It is not just ERFs, DNG uses a lossless compression on the Tiff image data to shrink the any file. I convert my scans to DNG as well, which saves me a lot of HD space. The R-D1's 6mb is tiny for a RAW file.

I see a similar thing with Pentax RAW files, when I have the camera set to PEF (Pentax native RAW format) and import files to Lightroom. If I have the camera set to save in DNG format I can reduce the file size by converting the files through the stand-alone DNG converter.
