Archhhh I was scanning a roll of film on my friends Coolscan 9000 when things went badly wrong.
Shortly when the scanner wanted to auto scan the 2nd strip of film it appeared to be out of alignment. As if the film was half way into the frames showing black lines almost in the middle of the frames.
Had trouble canceling the preview scans. Suddenly the transport mechanism started to make horrible noises :mad:

Only with some careful handling I as able to retreive the film holder from the scanner. But now the green light is blinking and it want load the tray any more.

Attempted to reset the scanner by turning it off but to no avail.

Any advice?

Where to go for repair?

Hmmm, I know the 8000 had a lousy problem with a little plastic hinge that would break very easily and have the same problems you mentioned. I'm not sure about the 9000 though. For repair I would think Nikon would handle it.

After I have left it turned off for a while. It loaded the holder again. Now its still scanning half the slides... Something is off with the alignment :-(

Are you scanning mounted slides or strips of 35mm film or strips of 120 film?

With strips of 120 film, you can set a 'scanner offset' in the scan software to adjust the alignment you're talking about. Maybe you accidently changed it?

Uncut 35mm Slides.

Thinking that by selecting Slide as media I might have make a mistake since the scanner might assume the slide holder will be in place with a different spacing.
So I switched to negative film but unfortunately the the issue remains.
I put the Vuescan back into its default settings but that doesn't help either.

Now I am in the middle of playing with the offset feature but don't see much happening right now.

Its there an other way to reset Vuescan than checking the box in some of the menu's ?
Can't find "restore to default" as a general for Vuescan.

Edit: Found it under the "File" menu.

Restoring Vuescan appears to have solved the issue.
Scary....

I am in the process of buying my own scanner. Initially lack of auto advance in the Plustec scanner turned me off. But all this experience makes me rethink my decision making process.

Ok everything seems to be working fine.
Love the results of my first rolls of film. Now go and get my own scanner!
