I have been experimenting with Crawley's FX-4 film developer as he said it was very good for 'KODAK' films, and I have found a stash of outdated Tri-X 35mm in the fridge. I mixed up to his 1961 'Original' Formula, then found it was changed a couple of times, with less Phenidone and more Hydroquinone.
Anyone here mixed it up and how did you find it ? I found diluting it 1+1 gave larger grain and soft negs, so last trial I used Stock Solution for 7.5 mins BUT negs were a little over-developed so I should give 7 mins next time as Crawley suggested. The 'Old Tri-X' I found could be rated at 400 ASA still with this developer-- usually when outdated it needs lower ASA.
