Hi,

Its starting to get really hot where I live and the satin black finish of the IIIc is starting to get slippery as hell when my hands become sweaty.
What covering would you suggest from CameraLeather or AKI to recover my IIIc ?
Any input would be great, I'd be interested in something that gives the historically correct look to the camera but can't seem to make up my mind on which cover to choose :bang:.

Oh and Another questions so I don't open another thread, how would you clean the RF windows ? I mean the RF image is great and contrasty but I'd like to get some of the grime off the glass.

Great , thanks - that solves one part of the equation that I'll try to solve this evening...

I'm still open to suggestions for the leather part :).

After all I have decided that it will take a nice vacation to Youxin for a nice CLA with the IIIf i hope to win locally this weekend.

Another question what does the * after the serial mean ?

I liked Griptac enough on my IIIc that I put it on an Autocord that needed recovering. Love the handling with both though they aren't as pretty as other coverings. I'm more interested in handling though. :)

It is a re-issued serial no. It could happen if the camera went back to Leitz for repair or upgrade and they ended swapping it for a new one. There are probably other reasons, but, essentially, it means that the serial no has been used before.

Leica Tom is your man to fully explain this.

Thanks, didn't want to bother him again as he has already helped me quite a lot with some of my gear choices ( he really is a great guy).
If anyone is interested here is what it looks like :

Thanks !

I have recently ordered a covering for my IIIc (avatar) from Aki Asahi, waiting for a convenience to deal with it. Before I have ordered two coverings from him, one for a button-M2 and the other one for the M3-SS (below). The quality and workmanship is excellent, very precise dimensioning so clean your camera carefully, do not leave any residue from the former adhesive and work slowly if you want a perfect fit. Work with paint remover by taking the black screws off to not damage them too. Tape the sides of the back door (black paintings) against paint remover. Apply paint remover in patches not larger than 2 or 3cm, allow it at least 10 minutes to function; then scrape with a wooden stick sharpened end like a screw driver to not scratch the chrome parts. Be patient, work in small patches and not hurry. Adhesive behind the covering is awesome, so do not press it before being sure of exact positioning. Then you will have a covering looking fine. FYI, the "pebbles" of the IIIc covering are a bit finer than the one shown here.
