i bumped into this collection of pictures with people wearing the same wig. i was wondering if there's anything fun in trying that with our group of photogs. rather than sending the same camera and film around the world, we send the same wig and have everyone take a picture of it in some setting. this could be a portrait, self portrait, as a prop, a piece of set dressing, etc. once someone gets the wig and posts their picture, they send it off to another RFF'er and could provide us with months of enjoyment.

apologies in advance to Jude in Toronto who seems to be the brainchild of this experiment . i just think the idea is a lot of fun.

if the consensus is that "it's already been done" then maybe it could be a different prop. it should be something easy and inexpensive to ship. also something not too fragile.

if people have "sanitary concerns" they could always put on a tight beanie underneath.

here's the pbase link:

anyone interested?

how about everyone buys one of those 'fake nose and glasses' novelty item and gets a self portrait taken wearing that?

This is a good idea IMO because it gets around the need to ship a wig around to all the participants, which creates a serial backlog. The fake nose and glasses also slightly changes the original idea so it is not such a direct dopy of an idea already done.

Are there any other ideas for a common prop besides the fake nose/glasses?

I could actually see everyone submitting a self portrait with some goofy prop and a short bio, and putting together another RFF book with it

Me too. We'd just have to find someone to print it without a colour cast. 🙂 I'd buy a copy!

How about nothing but a feather boa?

fantastic idea but might it be too costly to ship around from person to person? could be a pretty big box.

I think this is a BYOU deal - Bring Your Own Umbrella.

Great idea - the umbrella is almost universal, and large enough to be visible in almost any setting. You could stage the umbrella as a prop, or grab candids of other people wielding their umbrellas. Umbrellas could certainly add the "enigma" factor in many compositions. More socially acceptable than bullwhips, too.
