I have a renewed enthusiasm for film and B&W in particular. For the past few years I have carried my DSLRs on holiday and film choice/speed has not been an issue.

I'm off to Crete in 10 days (woohoo!). I have a few rolls of Ilford HP5 and FP4. I'm not bothered about my film SLRs as they have high shutter speeds. The problem is my new enthusiasm, an Oly 35RC, 1/500 max. Due to the unusual filter size I have no access to ND filters. I only have a red filter (3 stop).

I live in Scotland and too much light is rarely a problem ;)

What film(s), available in the UK, would you recommend for late summer/autumn in the med with a 35RC?

Been only shooting TriX in the past couple of years (with some random films here and there). With a top shutter speed of 1/1000 and f/11 I was always OK. If you need to avoid that then, Ilford provides all you need. PanF 50 and FP4+ 125 all available in the UK.
Don't forget it gets darker quicker now (compared to the summer) so you'll probably need 400 iso. And then the red filter can give you few stops down you need.
It all depends on how you like to shoot. If you like high contrast you'll be fine. If not you can control it in dev.
Have fun back home!

Thanks guys.

More FP4 ordered. I'm aware of the Oly's limitations but want to ensure that I have some control over the limited DOF on offer.

Only in Crete for a week but hopefully I will come home with some images worth posting.

FAST film (Delta 3200) for the Dikteion cave, the birthplace of Zeus! It's deep and dark... A wide-angle is handy too.

Otherwise, ISO 400 (HP5 Plus) suits me fine.

Cheers,

R.
