I remember reading an interview with architect Frank Gehry, probably dating back to late 1980s, where he talks about using engineers as draftsmen (vs architects) because their drawings look ugly. He prefers it, because he can concentrate more on the actual content- vs being seduced by beautiful architectural drawings.
Funny, but I think a similar problem exists with digital cameras. They are equipped with beautiful LCD screens, and almost nothing looks dull with them! I recently started to use an OVF with my Ricoh GR, and the transition has been very difficult. I find myself shooting much less than usual these days, and I think it will eventually improve my photography. On the other hand I do mind being restricted with eye level shooting. There is something liberating about using LCD for composition.
I guess I would be very happy if the camera makers introduced a dull mode for their screens 🙂

Oh man, just get Sigma DP1 - same angle of view, great IQ and nothing to write home about LCD.

Haven't followed if current DP models are matching your requirement.

Strange, my impression is always that the final photo is much better thazn the lcd. I often don't take photo's because they look so bland on the lcd.

All are beautiful!

Can you just mount a screen protector on there and smear it with mud or petroleum jelly, if you want an uglier view? 🙂
