I guess the title says it all. I'm picking up a CV 40mm MC and was wondering whether others shoot this with or without a UV/IR filter when doing color.

The 43mm filter seems to be fairly rare and I've not seen many posted for sale.

I use the B+W one from B+H photo on the RD1 and on the M8 before it was traded. Works perfect and is excellent quality. Yes use one.

Yes, you should use one. I got one for that lens from Adorama. I believe it was around $55. Search the cite for 43mm UV IR filter, and the B+W one should come up.

Not sure what that foliage remark was about, but, no, not just for foliage, get a B+W filter (I use this) if the Leica/Hoya one is not available - unless you're only converting to B&W and concerned about colour.

I made do without filters because I only use B&W for my personal happy snapping, but I gpt suck last year with clothing.

Hope it focusses fine.

I took a picture of myself in a purple shirt when I borrowed a fellow RFFer's M8 using the 40/1.4 MC.

I don't own any purple shirts.

Depends. If you shoot foliage, yes.

Cheers,

R.
Not only foliage, Roger. Caucasian skin is a nightmare too, especially in bright sunlight or with flash. Purple blacks I could live with, there is a lot one can do in PS, LAB mode is particularly effective, but the rest of the colours....:bang:
