CV 75/2.5 or 90/3.5

Hi,
Looking for a lens to take portraits. Which one should fit more-

75/2.5 or 90/3.5 in terms of sharpness, contrast and bokeh?

Does the APO in the 90/3.5 have any advantage over the 75/2.5?

I like the 2,5/75 because of its very good results, small size, weight and building quality. What I not like is its minimum focus distance. Good enough for head/shoulder portraits but I would prefer 0,7m like the Summicron 75. But nevertheless a very good lens - some pics on my flickr-site.
Sorry, don't know anything about the 3,5/90.

I've only owned either of them for a short period, but my first impression is that the 75 is a better portrait lens. assuming you're happy with head and shoulders. I couldn't explain precisely why though. For me it's also a more useful focal length for general shooting ...

if shooting in open shade a stop faster will help immensely. generally speaking, the 75mm will have more utility overall.

I have a Summicron 90 but I use my CV 75 more. I was unsure when I bought the 75 but find I really like the focal length and the CV lens. Joe

I think your decision should be based on the kind of portraits you wish to take -- and on the other uses to which you might put the lens.

I'd answer if I could read your post. Changing the font colour to white means IT DOES NOT SHOW UP for those of us using VBP ISkin. PLEASE do not tinker with the basics!

Still can not see it. Use a white font. I have owned both. The 75 is IMHO, better for portraits. I use the 90 as a telephoto only. With the R-d1 the 50mm serves as a 75 for me.

the 75 is a great lens. i had one and regret letting it go. gave one to my girlfriend and love the results she gets with it. i think the only downside is that it focuses only down to 1m.
i think sean reid gave it very good marks in a comparison to other 75s costing much much more.

When I had a Bessa R I tried the 75 and the 90mm. The 75 was fine and gave good results but I soon found that 90mm was "too telephoto" for my use with a rangefinder camera - the small framelines wouldn't let me compose with my usual care.
Now I use an 85mm on an SLR.

I think the CV 90 is too slow. While it's faster than the leica 90/4, I want the extra speed when working inside. The 75/2.5 I've kept for my kids kit is a WONDERFUL lens with enough speed to keep me happy and small enough to keep my back happy.

75 for me, 2.5 f offer a better range to me, and the length is perfect for a close portrait or a little more relaxed view.
The construction is similar, but the CV 90 is too big for me, I still surprised about the CV 75 compact feeling, inclusively is smaller than the 50 Nokton that I also love.
The rendition is very good for B&W or color portrait.

The 75/2.5 CV Heliar is a gem. I probably use it five times more often than my 85/2 Nikkor or 90/4 Elmar - mainly indoors - mainly with people.

Also, I doubt if this a true Heliar, but I love the signature of this lens when used with Tri-X.
