Hello everyone,
Could you give me a piece of advice? I'm going to Australia very soon and am going to shoot on Velvia. I received a 35/2.5 Color Skopar only yesterday so I don't have time to run a test. How does it perform on different apertures in terms of sharpness and contrast? Which one is best? How about flare?
Thanks a lot, Filip

I agree with Phototone and the Color Skopar 35mm/2.5 controls flare very well, I have several night shots that has street lights and moon that have no flare.

I agree. Even at f2.8 it's sharp with good Bokeh.
This shot was taken at 9:00pm here.

Filip, I've only gotten flare in one frame, seen in the "Chatham Steeple" picture in my gallery. In that photo, the sun is just out of the frame in the upper right. I shot at about f/8. Even there the flare was fairly well controlled (possibly due to the built-in lens hood?).

Several other pictures in my gallery were also made with this lens. The picture of the pots & pans was made wide open at about 1/15 (hand held) in available light. The rowbat was also taken at about f/4. This lens seems pretty sharp at wider apertures. Take a look and judge for yourself. 🙂

Overall I like this lens very much, it's quickly becoming a favorite. In fact, I'm taking a trip across the United States next week and it is the only RF lens that I am bringing with me. 😀

I dont have a fav f stop with my 35. But you will soon find out after taking your first roll. I have found that its rather a really sharp lens. Altho it competes with the CV 15mm.. I really should spread my love around with my cameras 😉 Enjoy the lens 🙂

I would agree with the above. Wide-open the lens is really good and sharp in the center. If you're into the OOF area that also looks nice at f2.5 as someone mentioned. I like f8 too - great for street shooting.

When you consider the price of this little lens it really is amazing! 🙂

I just got back slides taken with the CV 35mm Color Skopar (Fuji Astia 100F) and they are super sharp, with f5.6 to f11 being outstanding.

A Canon Serenar 35/2,8 is on the way to me now. I still have to see if that lens puts the Color Skopar out of use. The Canon was chosen because the CS is very rich in contrast. That is not always what I want, especially in comparison with my old Summicron.

This does not mean the Skopar is an excellent lens, on the contrary!

Thanks for info! 🙂
Rob, I don't think I know what SOFA stands for. Is it bookeh? 😕
Yes, sort of. Invented here in RFF I believe. But much more American in flavor... Middle America, like Iowa. Where there's a Davenport. 😀

Seriously, believe SOFA stands for Soft Out of Focus Areas, and we might as well keep saying "bokeh" instead, IMHO (in my humble opinion, that is!).

SOFA just sounds ridiculous to me. As if there weren't enough meaningless acronyms around anyway - ever heard of IBM Global Services' SOMA (Service Oriented Modeling and Architecture), also the name of the drug that people blissed out on in Aldous Huxley's Brave New World)...
What's wrong with the term bokeh anyway?

I sort of agree with you. But I've also seen bokeh that I like and bokeh that I don't like (from my Nikon SLR lenses, for example). The thing is that it seems to get discussed when there's nothing else to discuss in a picture, and of course some people just rant about it. That really is a bit too much.
