Down and dirty, that is...thanks to Nick R's suggestion and link in THIS thread. I improvised a little (since I don't have a light table), and used my Mac's flat screen, a blank Word doc (zoomed to 200%), my digital camera, and Photoshop's Invert function, to create a decent contact sheet.
I also converted to grayscale mode. The cool thing about this is one can leave the individual frams 'as is,' or do adjustments on each using a selection tool.
They're not perfect (I picked up some a stray light reflections on the negative sleeve), but in all not too bad. With a proper light table it'd probably look a lot better.
