Well-known
I recently got a fairly beat li'l Zenobia 6x4.5 folder that had fogged rear elements. Found the rear group was finger-tight -- maybe someone was already considered cleaning it up.
The retaining ring for the element(s) was very tight, so, possibly never disturbed. I got it loose, and the rear-most element dropped out nicely.
Too nicely? My understanding is that this is a Tessar design, and that the 2 rear elements would be bonded. But, there is no sign these elements were ever bonded. There was a water spot of identical shape on both elements of the pair.
The glass cleaned up well in amonia / H2O2 mix.
Were Tessar designs ever NOT bonded? Shall I just put it back together the way it was?
